Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.


and Beth–zur, and Shoco, and Adul´lam,


and Adora´im, and Lachish, and Aze´kah,


And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.


And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with a host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mare´shah.


Then Eli-e´zer the son of Do´davah of Mare´shah prophesied against Jehosh´aphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahazi´ah, the Lord hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.


And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.


Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.


Ziph, and Telem, and Be´aloth,


and Kei´lah, and Achzib, and Mare´shah; nine cities with their villages.


Ma´on, Carmel, and Ziph, and Juttah,


And David abode in the wilderness in strongholds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.


Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gib´e-ah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strongholds in the wood, in the hill of Hachi´lah, which is on the south of Jeshi´mon?
