The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her children.”


If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.


And if you greet only your friends, what are you doing that is out of the ordinary? Do not even the tax collectors do that?


“Be careful not to give to the needy in front of others to be seen by them, otherwise you have no reward with your Father in heaven.


Later, as Jesus was reclining at the table in Levi's house, many tax collectors and sinners reclined with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.


When the scribes and the Pharisees saw Jesus eating with tax collectors and sinners, they said to his disciples, “Why is he eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?”


Now all the tax collectors and sinners were drawing near to Jesus to listen to him.


But the tax collector stood at a distance and would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’


And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector, who was rich.


When all the people saw it, they grumbled, saying, “He has gone in to stay with a sinful man.”


Some tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?”


Then Levi gave a great banquet for Jesus in his house, and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others reclining at the table with them.


But the scribes of the people and the Pharisees were grumbling at his disciples, saying, “Why are you eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?”


(When all the people heard this, including the tax collectors, they acknowledged the justice of God, because they had been baptized with the baptism of John.


The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’
