In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered in a census.


Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”


In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,


and Jason has welcomed them. They all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”


Then Paul said in his own defense, “Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I committed any offense.”


But we think it would be best to hear what yoʋr views are, for concerning this sect, we know that everywhere it is spoken against.”


After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all his followers were scattered.
