As they went out, they found a Cyrenian man named Simon. They pressed him into service, forcing him to carry Jesus' cross.


As Jesus looked at him, he felt love for the man and said to him, “One thing yoʋ lack: Go and sell all that yoʋ have and give to the poor, and yoʋ will have treasure in heaven; and take up yoʋr cross and come follow me.”


Now a certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the countryside. The soldiers pressed him into service, forcing him to carry Jesus' cross,


Then he called the crowd over, along with his disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wants to follow me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.


And whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.


As the soldiers led him away, they took hold of Simon, a Cyrenian man who was coming in from the countryside, and they laid on him the cross, forcing him to carry it behind Jesus.


Carrying his own cross, he went out to a location called the Place of the Skull (which in Hebrew is called Golgotha).


(He said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God.) After saying this, he said to Peter, “Follow me.”


Jesus said to him, “If I wish for him to remain until I come, what is that to yoʋ? Yoʋ follow me!”


strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and telling them that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.


I rejoice now in my sufferings for you, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church.


so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we have been appointed to afflictions such as these.


Indeed, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.


For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving an example so that you could follow in his footsteps.
