12 As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the one and only son of his mother (who was a widow). And a large crowd from the town was with her.

Soon afterward Jesus went to a town called Nain, and many of his disciples went with him, along with a large crowd.


When the Lord saw her, he was moved with compassion for her and said to her, “Do not weep.”


because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. As Jesus went on his way, the crowds were pressing in on him.


Meanwhile, all the people were weeping and mourning for her, but Jesus said, “Do not weep; she is not dead but sleeping.”


and many of the Jews had joined the women who were with Martha and Mary, to console them about their brother.


So Peter rose and went with them. When he arrived, they brought him to the upper room, and all the widows stood before him, weeping and showing him all the tunics and cloaks that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.


He gave her his hand and raised her up. Then he called in the saints and the widows and presented her alive.


Pure and undefiled religion before God our Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
