7 When Jesus noticed how the guests were choosing the places of honor for themselves, he told them a parable:

All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables; he did not speak to them without using a parable.


They love the place of honor at banquets, the best seats in the synagogues,


Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.


“Beware of the scribes. They like to walk around in long robes, and they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.


Do nothing from selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility regard others as more important than yourselves.
