It is sufficient for the disciple that he should be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household?


They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that yoʋ are true and teach the way of God in truth and defer to no one, for yoʋ do not show partiality.


and said, “Sir, we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’


They came and said to him, “Teacher, we know that yoʋ are true and defer to no one, for yoʋ do not show partiality but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?


And there was much murmuring about him among the crowds. Some were saying, “He is a good man.” Others were saying, “No, he is deceiving the crowd.”


They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the entire Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for yoʋ to come to his house and to hear a message from yoʋ.”


So they came and spoke to them in a conciliatory manner. As they escorted them out, they begged them to leave the city.


“Now a certain Ananias, a devout man according to the law, who was well spoken of by all the Jews dwelling there,


For we have found this man to be a pestilent fellow, an instigator of dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.


But we think it would be best to hear what yoʋr views are, for concerning this sect, we know that everywhere it is spoken against.”


So after threatening Peter and John further, they released them, finding no way to punish them, because all the people were glorifying God for what had happened.


No one else dared to join them, but the people held them in high regard.


Therefore, brothers, look for seven men among you who have a good reputation and are full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we can appoint for this need.


And why not say (just as some slanderously claim that we say), “Let us do evil that good may come”? Their condemnation is just.


But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you did not waver between “Yes” and “No.”


To my shame I admit that we were too weak for that! But whatever anyone else dares to boast about—I am speaking like a fool—I also dare to boast about.


Be that as it may, I did not burden you. But crafty fellow that I am, I apparently took you in by deceit!


Rather, we have renounced shameful hidden deeds; we do not act deceitfully or distort the word of God, but by openly proclaiming the truth we commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God.


For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or with deceit,


He must also have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he may not fall into the reproach and snare of the devil.


For this is why we labor and suffer reproach, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.


Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured.


If you are reproached for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.


Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone, and by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true.


Those of the synagogue of Satan are liars. They declare themselves to be Jews but are not. Behold, I will make them come and bow down at yoʋr feet, and they will know that I love yoʋ.
