Numbers 27:3 - New International Reader's Version

3 “Our father died in the Sinai Desert. But he wasn’t one of the men who followed Korah. He wasn’t one of those who joined together against the Lord. Our father died because of his own sin. He didn’t leave any sons.

Everyone belongs to me. Parents and children alike belong to me. A person will die because of their own sins.


I, the Lord, have spoken. I will surely do these things to this entire evil community of Israel. They have joined together against me. They will meet their end in this desert. They will die here.”


Korah gathered all his followers together at the entrance to the tent. They opposed Moses and Aaron. Then the glory of the Lord appeared to the whole community.


But 14,700 people died from the plague. That doesn’t include those who had died because of what Korah did.


Zelophehad was the son of Hepher. Zelophehad didn’t have any sons. All he had was daughters. Their names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah.

Why should our father’s name disappear from his family just because he didn’t have a son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.”


Once more Jesus said to them, “I am going away. You will look for me, and you will die in your sin. You can’t come where I am going.”


I told you that you would die in your sins. This will happen if you don’t believe that I am he. If you don’t believe, you will certainly die in your sins.”


Sin entered the world because one man sinned. And death came because of sin. Everyone sinned, so death came to all people.


Sin ruled and brought death. But grace rules in the lives of those who are right with God. The grace of God brings eternal life. That’s because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done.


When you sin, the pay you get is death. But God gives you the gift of eternal life. That’s because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done.
