When Manasseh was in trouble, he asked the Lord his God to help him. He made himself very humble in the sight of the God of his people.


Everything about Manasseh is written in the records of the prophets. That includes his prayer and the fact that God felt sorry for him. It includes everything he did before he made himself humble in the Lord’s sight. It includes all his sins and the fact that he wasn’t faithful to the Lord. It includes the locations where he built high places. It includes the places where he set up poles used to worship the female god named Asherah. And it includes the places where he set up statues of other gods.


He didn’t make himself humble in the Lord’s sight as his father Manasseh had done. So Amon became even more guilty.


The Lord says, “Your heart was tender. You made yourself humble in my sight. You heard what I spoke against this place and its people. So you made yourself humble. You tore your royal robes and wept. And I have heard you,” announces the Lord.


But they make themselves humble in my sight. They pray and look to me. And they turn from their evil ways. Then I will listen to them from heaven. I will forgive their sin. And I will heal their land. After all, they are my people.


So I hate myself. I’m really sorry for what I said about you. That’s why I’m sitting in dust and ashes.”


Blessed is the person who obeys the law of the Lord. They don’t follow the advice of evil people. They don’t make a habit of doing what sinners do. They don’t join those who make fun of the Lord and his law.


Praise the Lord. Blessed are those who have respect for the Lord. They find great delight when they obey God’s commands.


Blessed are all those who have respect for the Lord. They live as he wants them to live.


Blessed are those who depend on the God of Jacob for help. Blessed are those who put their hope in the Lord their God.


Obey the son completely, or he will be angry. Your way of life will lead to your death. His anger can blaze out at any moment. Blessed are all those who go to him for safety.


The Lord is close to those whose hearts have been broken. He saves those whose spirits have been crushed.


Blessed are those who care about weak people. When they are in trouble, the Lord saves them.


The greatest sacrifice you want is a broken spirit. God, you will gladly accept a heart that is broken because of sadness over sin.


Lord who rules over all, blessed is the person who trusts in you.


Suppose you are lowly in spirit along with those who are treated badly. That’s better than sharing stolen goods with those who are proud.


Pride brings a person low. But those whose spirits are low will be honored.


“My children, listen to me. Blessed are those who keep my ways.


But the Lord wants to have mercy on you. So he will rise up to give you his tender love. The Lord is a God who is always fair. Blessed are all those who wait for him to act!


The God who is highly honored lives forever. His name is holy. He says, “I live in a high and holy place. But I also live with anyone who turns away from their sins. I live with anyone who is not proud. I give new life to them. I give it to anyone who turns away from their sins.


The Spirit of the Lord and King is on me. The Lord has anointed me to announce good news to poor people. He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts have been broken. He has sent me to announce freedom for those who have been captured. He wants me to set prisoners free from their dark cells.


Didn’t I make everything by my power? That is how all things were created,” announces the Lord. “The people I value are not proud. They are sorry for the wrong things they have done. They have great respect for what I say.


The Lord has shown you what is good. He has told you what he requires of you. You must act with justice. You must love to show mercy. And you must be humble as you live in the sight of your God.


At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father. You are Lord of heaven and earth. You have hidden these things from wise and educated people. But you have shown them to little children.


Blessed is anyone who does not give up their faith because of me.”


But blessed are your eyes because they see. And blessed are your ears because they hear.


Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t keep them away. The kingdom of heaven belongs to people like them.”


It will be good for the slave if the master finds him doing his job when the master returns.


“Then the King will speak to those on his right. He will say, ‘My Father has blessed you. Come and take what is yours. It is the kingdom prepared for you since the world was created.


He said, “Turn away from your sins! The kingdom of heaven has come near.”


I say to you that many will come from the east and the west. They will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of heaven. They will sit with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.


When Jesus saw this, he was angry. He said to his disciples, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t keep them away. God’s kingdom belongs to people like them.


He replied, “Instead, blessed are those who hear God’s word and obey it.”


“I tell you, the tax collector went home accepted by God. But not the Pharisee. All those who lift themselves up will be made humble. And those who make themselves humble will be lifted up.”


And I give you a kingdom, just as my Father gave me a kingdom.


Then you will eat and drink at my table in my kingdom. And you will sit on thrones, judging the 12 tribes of Israel.


“The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has anointed me to announce the good news to poor people. He has sent me to announce freedom for prisoners. He has sent me so that the blind will see again. He wants me to set free those who are treated badly.


Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen me but still have believed.”


Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way. He guided you in the desert for these 40 years. He wanted to take your pride away. He wanted to test you to know what was in your hearts. He wanted to see whether you would obey his commands.


But rich people should take pride in their low positions. That’s because they will fade away like wild flowers.


Blessed is the person who keeps on going when times are hard. After they have come through hard times, this person will receive a crown. The crown is life itself. The Lord has promised it to those who love him.


My dear brothers and sisters, listen to me. Hasn’t God chosen those who are poor in the world’s eyes to be rich in faith? Hasn’t he chosen them to receive the kingdom? Hasn’t he promised it to those who love him?


Here is what the angel told me to write. “Blessed are those invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” Then he added, “These are the true words of God.”


“Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will have the right to come to the tree of life. They will be allowed to go through the gates into the city.


You say, “I am rich. I’ve become wealthy and don’t need anything.” But you don’t realize how pitiful and miserable you have become. You are poor, blind and naked.
