19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he came to it, and found nothing on it but leaves. He said to it, *Let there be no fruit from you forever!* Immediately the fig tree withered away.

He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in its midst, and also cut out a winepress therein. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes.


I will utterly consume them, says the LORD: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and [the things that] I have given them shall pass away from them.
