Now the names of the twelve emissaries are these. The first, Shim`on, who is called Kefa; Andrew, his brother; Ya`akov Ben-Zavdai; Yochanan, his brother;


He appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them out to preach,


When his talmidim heard this, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.


The seventy returned with joy, saying, *Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!*


The emissaries said to the Lord, *Increase our faith.*


When the hour had come, he sat down with the twelve emissaries.


Now they were Miriam from Magdala, Yochanah, and Miriam the mother of Ya`akov. The other women with them told these things to the emissaries.


When it was day, he called his talmidim, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named emissaries:


The emissaries, when they had returned, told him what things they had done. He took them, and withdrew apart to a deserted place of a city called Beit-Tzaidah.


They drew lots for them, and the lot fell on Mattityah, and he was numbered with the eleven emissaries.
