He left from there to the mountain on the east of Beit-El, and pitched his tent, having Beit-El on the west, and `Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.


He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.


I am the God of Beit-El, where you anointed a pillar, where you vowed a vow to me. Now arise, get out from this land, and return to the land of your birth.'*


God said to Ya`akov, *Arise, go up to Beit-El, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esav your brother.*


Ya`akov set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.


Ya`akov called the name of the place where God spoke with him *Beit-El.*


So Ya`akov came to Luz (that is, Beit-El), which is in the land of Kena`an, he and all the people who were with him.


He built an altar there, and called the place El-Beit-El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.


Ya`akov said to Yosef, *El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in the land of Kena`an, and blessed me,


He set the one in Beit-El, and the other put he in Dan.


Eliyahu said to Elisha, Please wait here, for the LORD has sent me as far as Beit-El. Elisha said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Beit-El.


Aviyah pursued after Yarov`am, and took cities from him, Beit-El with the towns of it, and Yeshanah with the towns of it, and `Efron with the towns of it.


*Though you, Yisra'el, play the prostitute, yet don't let Yehudah offend; and don't come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beit-Aven, nor swear, 'As the LORD lives.'


and it went out from Beit-El to Luz, and passed along to the border of the Arki to `Atrot;


The border passed along from there to Luz, to the side of Luz (the same is Beit-El), southward; and the border went down to `Atarot-Addar, by the mountain that lies on the south of Beit-Choron the lower.


He took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Beit-El and `Ai, on the west side of the city.


Then all the children of Yisra'el, and all the people, went up, and came to Beit-El, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt offerings and shalom offerings before the LORD.


Then shall you go on forward from there, and you shall come to the oak of Tavor; and there shall meet you there three men going up to God to Beit-El, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:


He went from year to year in circuit to Beit-El and Gilgal, and Mitzpah; and he judged Yisra'el in all those places.
