4 The king commanded Chilkiyah the Kohen Gadol, and the Kohanim of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Ba`al, and for the Asherah, and for all the army of the sky, and he burned them outside of Yerushalayim in the fields of the Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Beit-El.

All the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.


He set the one in Beit-El, and the other put he in Dan.


Also Ma`akhah his mother he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.


It happened, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Yarov`am the son of Nevat, that he took as wife Izevel the daughter of Etba`al king of the Tzidonim, and went and served Ba`al, and worshiped him.


Now therefore send, and gather to me all Yisra'el to Mount Karmel, and the prophets of Ba`al four hundred fifty, and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, who eat at Izevel's table.


They took the bull which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Ba`al from morning even until noon, saying, Ba`al, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any who answered. They leaped about the altar which was made.


and Eliyahu said to them, Take the prophets of Ba`al; don't let one of them escape. They took them; and Eliyahu brought them down to the brook Kishon, and killed them there.


Yet will I leave [me] seven thousand in Yisra'el, all the knees which have not bowed to Ba`al, and every mouth which has not kissed him.


They brought forth the pillars that were in the house of Ba`al, and burned them.


It was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the Kohen Gadol came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in the house of the LORD.


They forsook all the mitzvot of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served Ba`al.


For he built again the high places which Chizkiyahu his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Ba`al, and made an Asherah, as did Ach'av king of Yisra'el, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them.


He built altars for all the army of the sky in the two courts of the house of the LORD.


He set the engraved image of Asherah, that he had made, in the house of which the LORD said to David and to Shlomo his son, In this house, and in Yerushalayim, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Yisra'el, will I put my name forever;


Go up to Chilkiyah the Kohen Gadol, that he may sum the money which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people:


The altars that were on the roof of the upper chamber of Achaz, which the kings of Yehudah had made, and the altars which Menasheh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king break down, and beat [them] down from there, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.


Moreover the altar that was at Beit-El, and the high place which Yarov`am the son of Nevat, who made Yisra'el to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah.


The captain of the guard took Serayah the chief Kohen, and Tzefanyah the second Kohen, and the three keepers of the threshold:


Also Ma`akhah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and made dust of it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

Therefore, by this the iniquity of Ya`akov will be forgiven, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: that he makes all the stones of the altar as chalk stones that are beaten in pieces, so that the Asherim and the incense altars shall rise no more.


The captain of the guard took Serayah the chief Kohen, and Tzefanyah the second Kohen, and the three keepers of the threshold:


Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Ba`al, and walk after other gods that you have not known,


He said to me, Son of man, see you what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Yisra'el do commit here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but you shall again see yet other great abominations.


*Though you, Yisra'el, play the prostitute, yet don't let Yehudah offend; and don't come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beit-Aven, nor swear, 'As the LORD lives.'


*Go to Beit-El, and sin; to Gilgal, and sin more. Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days,


I will stretch out my hand against Yehudah, and against all the inhabitants of Yerushalayim. I will cut off the remnant of Ba`al from this place: the name of the idolatrous and pagan Kohanim,


Then the chief Kohanim, the scribes, and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the Kohen Gadol, who was called Kayafa.


Now when morning had come, all the chief Kohanim and the elders of the people took counsel against Yeshua to put him to death:


When Yeshua had spoken these words, he went out with his talmidim over the brook Kidron, where was a garden, into which he and his talmidim entered.


They forsook the LORD, and served Ba`al and the `Ashtarot.
