So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”


And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”


And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”


Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.


Thus says your Lord, the Lord, your God who pleads the cause of his people: “Behold, I have taken from your hand the cup of staggering; the bowl of my wrath you shall drink no more;


You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.


I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished!


For thus says the Lord: “If those who did not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, will you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you must drink.


But all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.


Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.


When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants, it is I who keep steady its pillars. Selah


Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.


Wake yourself, wake yourself, stand up, O Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand of the Lord the cup of his wrath, who have drunk to the dregs the bowl, the cup of staggering.
