And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again.


As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.


The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season.


The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.


He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.

And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.”


And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”


And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.


And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”


Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.


For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.


He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness.
