At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus,


For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,


But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod,


And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt?


The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.


So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold the man!”


For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in,


and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,”
