20 Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. He then went to his own house. And when he asked, they set food before him, and he ate.

But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David understood that the child was dead. And David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!


The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.


I am mute; I do not open my mouth, for it is you who have done it.


Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!


Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.


Let your garments be always white. Let not oil be lacking on your head.


But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,


You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.


Wash therefore and anoint yourself, and put on your cloak and go down to the threshing floor, but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.


Now therefore, please pardon my sin and return with me that I may bow before the Lord.”


So Samuel turned back after Saul, and Saul bowed before the Lord.
