And when they that carried the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a ram.


And all the ancients of Israel came: and the priests took up the ark,


And the sons of Levi took the ark of God, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the Lord, upon their shoulders, with the staves.


Then David said: No one ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites, whom the Lord hath chosen to carry it, and to minister unto himself for ever.


And it shall not be the office of the Levites to carry any more the tabernacle, and all the vessels for the service thereof.


And thou shalt appoint certain limits to the people round about, and thou shalt say to them: Take heed you go not up into the mount, and that ye touch not the borders thereof. Every one that toucheth the mount dying he shall die.


He said unto him: Go down, and charge the people; lest they should have a mind to pass the limits to see the Lord, and a very great multitude of them should perish.


And thou shalt draw them through rings: and they shall be on both sides of the altar to carry it.


That when the perfumes are put upon the fire, the cloud and vapour thereof may cover the oracle, which is over the testimony, and he may not die.


But appoint them over the tabernacle of the testimony, and all the vessels thereof, and whatsoever pertaineth to the ceremonies. They shall carry the tabernacle and all the furniture thereof: and they shall minister, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.


When you are to go forward, the Levites shall take down the tabernacle: when you are to camp, they shall set it up. What stranger soever cometh to it shall be slain.


Then the Caathites also marched carrying the sanctuary. So long was the tabernacle carried, till they same to the place of setting it up.


And the Levites shall watch to do thy commands, and about all the works of the tabernacle. Only they shall not come nigh the vessels of the sanctuary nor the altar: lest both they die, and you also perish with them.


Before the tabernacle of the covenant, that is to say on the east side, shall Moses and Aaron camp, with their sons: having the custody of the sanctuary, in the midst of the children of Israel. What stranger soever cometh unto it shall be put to death.


And shall put it with all the vessels that they use in the ministry thereof: that is to say, firepans, fleshhooks and forks, pothooks and shovels. They shall cover all the vessels of the altar together with a covering of violet skins: and shall put in the bars.


But do this to them, that they may live, and not die, by touching the holies of holies. Aaron and his sons shall go in, and they shall appoint every man his work: and shall divide the burdens that every man is to carry.


Let not others by any curiosity see the things that are in the sanctuary before they be wrapped up. Otherwise they shall die.


But to the sons of Caath he gave no wagons or oxen: because they serve in the sanctuary and carry their burdens upon their own shoulders.


And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it to the priests the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the ancients of Israel.


Now the priests, that carried the ark, stood in the midst of the Jordan till all things were accomplished which the Lord had commanded Josue to speak to the people, and Moses had said to him. And the people made haste and passed over.


But he slew of the men of Bethsames, because they had seen the ark of the Lord; and he slew of the people seventy men, and fifty thousand of the common people. And the people lamented, because the Lord had smitten the people with a great slaughter.
