Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw behind his back a ram amongst the briers sticking fast by the horns: which he took and offered for a holocaust instead of his son.


He said to him: Take thy only begotten son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and go into the land of vision: and there thou shalt offer him for a holocaust upon one of the mountains which I will shew thee.


And Noe built an altar unto the Lord: and taking of all cattle and fowls that were clean, offered holocausts upon the altar.


So Jethro the kinsman of Moses offered holocausts and sacrifices to God: and Aaron and all the ancients of Israel came, to eat bread with them before God.


And the Lord called Moses, and spoke to him from the tabernacle of the testimony, saying:


He answered him: Call I speak any thing else but what the Lord commandeth?


He said to Balac: Stand here by thy burnt-offering while I go to meet him.


And when he had done according to the word of Balaam, they laid together a calf and a ram upon every altar.


And he said: Did I not tell thee, that whatsoever God should command me, that I would do?


And when he was gone with speed, God met him. And Balaam speaking to him, said: I have erected seven altars, and have laid on every one a calf and a ram.


And when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord that he should bless Israel, he went not as he had gone before, to seek divination: but setting his face towards the desert,


Again the devil took him up into a very high mountain, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them,


And I would not hear him: but on the contrary I blessed you by him, and I delivered you out of his hand.
