After Amaziah came from the attack on the Edomites, he brought the gods of the Seirites and set them up as his gods. He worshipped before them and burned incense to them.


At the same time both rebels and sinners will be broken, and those who abandon the  Lord will perish.


‘Come, gather together, and approach, you fugitives of the nations. Those who carry their wooden idols and pray to a god who cannot save have no knowledge.


Like scarecrows in a cucumber patch, their idols cannot speak. They must be carried  because they cannot walk. Do not fear them, for they can do no harm   – and they cannot do any good.


Keep your feet from going bare and your throat from thirst. But you say, ‘It’s hopeless; I love strangers, and I will continue to follow them.’


I will destroy you, Israel; you have no help but me.  ,


She will pursue her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will think, ‘I will go back to my former husband, for then it was better for me than now.’


Then they sweep  by like the wind and pass through. They are guilty;  their strength is their god.
