“When you buy a Hebrew servant, he serves six years, and in the seventh he goes out free, for naught.


“If the sun has risen on him, there is guilt for his bloodshed, he shall certainly repay. If he has not the means, then he shall be sold for his theft.


Thus says יהוה, “Where is the certificate of your mother’s divorce, whom I have put away? Or which of My creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Look, you were sold for your crookednesses, and your mother was put away for your transgressions.


‘And when your brother who dwells by you becomes poor, and sells himself to you, do not make him serve as a slave.


And when he had begun to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents,


And when they were unable to repay, he forgave them both. Which of them, then, shall love him more?
