And the name of the third river is Ḥiddeqel, it is the one which goes toward the east of Ashshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.


And they dwelt from Ḥawilah as far as Shur, which is east of Mitsrayim as you go toward Ashshur. He settled before all his brothers.


And יהוה sent against him raiding bands of Kasdim, and raiding bands of Aram, and raiding bands of Mo’aḇ, and raiding bands of the children of Ammon. And He sent them against Yehuḏah to destroy it, according to the word of יהוה which He had spoken by His servants the prophets.


And they performed the Festival of Matzot seven days with joy, for יהוה caused them to rejoice, and turned the heart of the sovereign of Ashshur toward them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the House of Elohim, the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl.


While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Kasdim formed three bands, and made a raid on the camels and took them away, and they struck the servants with the edge of the sword. And I alone have escaped to inform you!”


See the land of the Kasdim – this people did not exist. Ashshur founded it for wild beasts of the desert. They set up their siege-towers, they demolished her palaces, and made her a ruin.


“Go up against the land of Merathayim, against it, and against the inhabitants of Peqoḏ. Slay and put them under the ban,” declares יהוה, “and do according to all that I have commanded you.


Again the word of יהוה came to me, saying,


“She lusted for the sons of Ashshur, officers and rulers, the ones near, perfectly dressed, horsemen riding on horses, all of them desirable young men.


“But she increased her whorings, and she looked at men carved on the wall, images of Kasdim inscribed in red,


“Therefore, Oholiḇah, thus said the Master יהוה, ‘See, I am stirring up your lovers against you, from whom your being turned in disgust, and shall bring them against you from every side:


dressed in purple, officers and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding on horses.


“Then he came out of the land of the Kasdim and dwelt in Ḥaran. And from there, after the death of his father, He removed him to this land in which you now dwell.
