And Yo’aḇ gave the number of the registration of the people to the sovereign, and there were in Yisra’ĕl eight hundred thousand brave men who drew the sword, and the men of Yehuḏah were five hundred thousand men.
But the sovereign’s word was strong against Yo’aḇ. And Yo’aḇ left and went throughout all Yisra’ĕl and came to Yerushalayim.
But Dawiḏ did not take the number of those twenty years old and under, because יהוה had said He would increase Yisra’ĕl like the stars of the heavens.
Yo’aḇ son of Tseruyah began a census, but he did not finish, for wrath came upon Yisra’ĕl because of this census; nor was the number recorded in the account of the annals of Sovereign Dawiḏ.
