Proverbs 12:9 - Revised Standard Version

Better is a man of humble standing who works for himself than one who plays the great man but lacks bread.

A man is commended according to his good sense, but one of perverse mind is despised.

One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.

‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;

For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
