Then the work on the house of God which is in Jerusalem stopped; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.


But in the fifth year you may eat of their fruit, that they may yield more richly for you: I am the Lord your God.


On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet,


Pray now, consider what will come to pass from this day onward. Before a stone was placed upon a stone in the temple of the Lord,


“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.


For there shall be a sowing of peace; the vine shall yield its fruit, and the ground shall give its increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.


Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Let your hands be strong, you who in these days have been hearing these words from the mouth of the prophets, since the day that the foundation of the house of the Lord of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.


If they were wise, they would understand this, they would discern their latter end!
