So they sought for a beautiful maiden throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.


And Elijah took the child, and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said, “See, your son lives.”


Then he got up again, and walked once to and fro in the house, and went up, and stretched himself upon him; the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.


She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground; then she took up her son and went out.


And he said, “Take it up.” So he reached out his hand and took it.


Now Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, “Arise, and depart with your household, and sojourn wherever you can; for the Lord has called for a famine, and it will come upon the land for seven years.”


And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.


Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life.
