Sent to Thecua, and fetched from thence a wise woman: and said to her: Feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel, and be not anointed with oil, that thou mayest be as a woman that had a long time been mourning for one dead.


The king therefore being much moved, went up to the high chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went he spoke in this manner: My son Absalom, Absalom my son! Would to God that I might die for thee, Absalom my son, my son Absalom!


And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people. For the people heard say that day: The king grieveth for his son.


And the king covered his head, and cried with a loud voice: O my son Absalom, O Absalom my son, O my son.


And there were the three sons of Sarvia there, Joab, and Abisai, and Asael. Now Asael was a most swift runner, like one of the roes that abide in the woods.


And their sisters were Sarvia, and Abigail. The sons of Sarvia: Abisai, Joab, and Asael, three.


Many seek the face of the prince: but the judgment of every one cometh forth from the Lord.
