but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. You must not do any work #– #you, your son or daughter, your male or female servant, your livestock, or the resident foreigner who is within your city gates.


Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there must be a Sabbath of complete rest,  holy to the Lord. Anyone who does work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.


Happy is the person who does this, the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.


For the Lord says this: ‘For the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose what pleases me, and hold firmly to my covenant,


As for the foreigners who join themselves to the  Lord to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to become his servants – all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold firmly to my covenant –


‘If you avoid desecrating the Sabbath, from doing whatever you want on my holy day; if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the holy day of the  Lord  honourable; if you honour it, not going your own ways, seeking your own pleasure, or talking business;  ,


When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, ‘See, your disciples are doing what is not lawful  to do on the Sabbath.’


When the scribes  who were Pharisees  , saw that he was eating  with sinners  and tax collectors,  they asked his disciples, ‘Why does he eat  with tax collectors and sinners? ’


He said to them, ‘Have you never read what David   and those who were with him did when he was in need   and hungry   #– #


‘Why does he speak like this? He’s blaspheming!  Who can forgive  sins  but God alone? ’


For consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself, so that you won’t grow weary and give up.
