Then all the people responded together, ‘We will do all that the Lord has spoken.’  So Moses brought the people’s words back to the Lord.


‘You speak to us, and we will listen,’ they said to Moses, ‘but don’t let God speak to us, or we will die.’


Moses came and told the people all the commands of the Lord and all the ordinances. Then all the people responded with a single voice, ‘We will do everything that the Lord has commanded.’


He then took the covenant scroll and read it aloud to the people. They responded, ‘We will do and obey all that the Lord has commanded.’


This one will say, “I am the  Lord’s”; another will use the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, “The  Lord’s”, and take on the name of Israel.’


Today you have affirmed that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in his ways, keep his statutes, commands, and ordinances, and obey him.


If you abandon the Lord and worship foreign gods, he will turn against you, harm you, and completely destroy  you, after he has been good to you.’


Joshua then told the people, ‘You are witnesses against yourselves that you yourselves have chosen to worship the Lord.’ ‘We are witnesses,’ they said.
