‘Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! ’  This is the Lord’s declaration.


‘Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy, and say to them, “This is what the Lord God says to the shepherds: Woe to the shepherds of Israel, who have been feeding themselves!  Shouldn’t the shepherds feed their flock?


The  princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are wolves of the night, which leave nothing for   the morning.


I am about to raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are perishing, and he will not seek the lost  or heal the broken. He will not sustain the healthy,  but he will devour the flesh of the fat sheep  and tear off their hooves.


‘Truly I tell you, anyone who doesn’t enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in some other way is a thief and a robber.


My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.


They will never follow a stranger; instead they will run away from him, because they don’t know the voice of strangers.’


Some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, and all his followers were dispersed and came to nothing.
