These are the records of the heavens and the earth, concerning their creation. At the time that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,
Were you the first human ever born, or were you brought forth before the hills?
When God fixed the weight of the wind and distributed the water by measure,
Who gave him authority over the earth? Who put him in charge of the entire world?
The Lord founded the earth by wisdom and established the heavens by understanding.
Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his hands? Who has bound up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son – if you know?
‘The Lord acquired me at the beginning of his creation, before his works of long ago.
Whom did he consult? Who gave him understanding and taught him the paths of justice? Who taught him knowledge and showed him the way of understanding?
He made the earth by his power, established the world by his wisdom, and spread out the heavens by his understanding.
He is here: the one who forms the mountains, creates the wind, and reveals his thoughts to man, the one who makes the dawn out of darkness and strides on the heights of the earth. The Lord, the God of Armies, is his name.
And: In the beginning, Lord, you established the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands;
In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son. God has appointed him heir of all things and made the universe , through him.
He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the rubbish heap. He seats them with noblemen and gives them a throne of honour. For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; he has set the world on them.
