However, if it does not make peace with you but wages war against you, lay siege to it.

However, if the city does not negotiate peacefully with you but makes war against you, you may attack it.

But if they are not willing to enter into an agreement, and they begin to act against you in warfare, then you shall besiege it.

But if they will not make peace, and shall begin war against thee, thou shalt besiege it.

If it accepts your offer of peace and opens its gates to you, all the people found in it will become forced labourers for you and serve you.

When the Lord your God hands it over to you, strike down all its males with the sword.
