During the night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two slave women, and his eleven sons, and crossed the ford of Jabbok.


Israel struck him with the sword and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok,  but only up to the Ammonite border, because it was fortified.


When you get close to the Ammonites, don’t show any hostility to them or provoke them, for I will not give you any of the Ammonites’ land as a possession; I have given it as a possession to the descendants of Lot.” ’


Don’t provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even a foot of it,  because I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his possession.

and I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites the area extending from Gilead to the Arnon Valley (the middle of the valley was the border) and up to the River Jabbok, the border of the Ammonites.


King Sihon of the Amorites lived in Heshbon. He ruled from Aroer  on the rim of the River Arnon, along the middle of the valley, and half of Gilead up to the River Jabbok (the border of the Ammonites  ),


to tell him, ‘This is what Jephthah says: Israel did not take away the land of Moab or the land of the Ammonites.


They took possession of all the territory of the Amorites from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the wilderness to the Jordan.
