The rest of the events of Amaziah’s reign are written in the Historical Record of Judah’s Kings.


They carried him back  on horses, and he was buried in Jerusalem with his ancestors in the city of David.


Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against Zechariah. He struck him down publicly,  killed him, and became king in his place.


Then Menahem son of Gadi came up from Tirzah  to Samaria and struck down Shallum son of Jabesh there. He killed him and became king in his place.


Then his officer, Pekah  son of Remaliah, conspired against him  and struck him down in Samaria at the citadel of the king’s palace  – with Argob and Arieh.  There were fifty Gileadite men with Pekah. He killed Pekahiah and became king in his place.


Then Hoshea  son of Elah organised a conspiracy against Pekah son of Remaliah. He attacked him, killed him,  and became king in his place in the twentieth year of Jotham son of Uzziah.


So King Hezekiah of Judah sent word to the king of Assyria at Lachish:  ‘I have done wrong;  withdraw from me. Whatever you demand from me, I will pay.’ The king of Assyria demanded ten tonnes  of silver and one tonne  of gold from King Hezekiah of Judah.


Then the king of Assyria sent the field marshal,  the chief of staff, and his royal spokesman, along with a massive army, from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem.  They advanced and came to Jerusalem, and  they took their position by the aqueduct of the upper pool, by the road to the Launderer’s Field.


Amon’s servants conspired against him and put the king to death in his own house.


When King Ahaziah of Judah saw what was happening, he fled up the road towards Beth-haggan. Jehu pursued him, shouting, ‘Shoot him too! ’ So they shot him in his chariot  at Gur Pass near Ibleam,  but he fled to Megiddo  and died there.
