Then David enquired of the Lord:  ‘Should I attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me? ’ The Lord replied to David, ‘Attack, for I will certainly hand the Philistines over to you.’


So David enquired of the Lord, and he answered, ‘Do not attack directly, but circle around behind them and come at them opposite the balsam trees.


So he went to the king, and the king asked him, ‘Micaiah, should we go to Ramoth-gilead for war, or should we refrain? ’ Micaiah told him, ‘March up and succeed. The Lord will hand it over to the king.’


But Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, ‘First, please ask what the Lord’s will is.’


‘Son of man, speak with the elders of Israel and tell them, “This is what the Lord God says: Are you coming to enquire of me? As I live, I will not let you enquire of me.  This is the declaration of the Lord God.”


After the death of Joshua,  the Israelites enquired of the Lord,  ‘Who will be the first to fight for us against the Canaanites? ’


They set out, went to Bethel, and enquired of God.  The Israelites asked, ‘Who is to go first to fight for us against the Benjaminites? ’ And the Lord answered, ‘Judah will be first.’


and Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron,  was serving before it. The Israelites asked, ‘Should we again fight against our brothers the Benjaminites or should we stop? ’ The Lord answered, ‘Fight, because I will hand them over to you tomorrow.’


They again enquired of the Lord,  ‘Has the man come here yet? ’ The Lord replied, ‘There he is, hidden among the supplies.’


So David enquired of the Lord:  ‘Should I launch an attack against these Philistines? ’ The Lord answered David, ‘Launch an attack against the Philistines and rescue Keilah.’


Once again, David enquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him, ‘Go at once to Keilah, for I will hand the Philistines over to you.’


He enquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him in dreams or by the Urim or by the prophets.
