But the Levites were not numbered among the sons of Israel. For so the Lord had instructed Moses.


These are the generations of Aaron and Moses, in the day when the Lord spoke to Moses on mount Sinai.


And the Lord spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai, saying:


"Number the sons of Levi by the houses of their fathers and their families, every male from one month and above."


Moses took a census of them, according to the word of the Lord, each one according to their office and their burdens, just as the Lord had instructed him.
