About three months later, Judah was told, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar has been a prostitute—look, she’s even pregnant by prostitution.” “Bring her out!” Judah said, “and let her be burned.”


“Do not defile your daughter, to make her a prostitute, so that the land does not fall into prostitution, and become full of wickedness.

If a man takes a wife and her mother, it is wickedness. They should be burned with fire—both he and they, so that there may be no wickedness among you.


Therefore you are to keep the Shabbat, because it is holy for you. Everyone who profanes it will die, for whoever does any work during Shabbat, that soul will be cut off from the midst of his people.
