Wild donkeys stand on the barren hills, as they pant for air like jackals. Their eyes fail, since there is no foliage.


I will go and return to My place until they admit their guilt. Then they will seek My face. In their distress they will seek Me earnestly:


They say to wood, ‘You are my father’ and to a stone, ‘You birthed me.’ They have turned their back to Me and not their face. Yet when they are in trouble they say, ‘Rise up and save us!’


But a witless man will gain understanding when a wild donkey’s colt is born a human being?


For they have gone up to Assyria, like a wild donkey alone by itself. Ephraim has hired lovers.


Do you count the months they fulfill and do you know the time when they give birth


To all prostitutes gifts are given—but you gave your gifts to all your lovers! You bribed them to come to you from every side in your harlotry.
