By mercy and truth is iniquity atoned, and by the fear of Adonai one avoids evil.


then you will know the fear of Adonai and discover the knowledge of God.


The earlier governors, those preceding me, placed heavy burdens on the people, and took bread and wine from them, in addition to forty shekels of silver. Their attendants also lorded over the people. But I did not do so, out of fear of God.


Now the men of the place asked about his wife. So he said, “She is my sister,” because he was afraid to say, “my wife”—“or else the men of the place would kill me on account of Rebekah, because she’s good looking.”


So when the Egyptians see you they’ll say, ‘This is his wife.’ And they’ll kill me; but you, they’ll let live.


And He said to mankind, ‘The fear of the Lord —that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.”’


Then Joseph said to them on the third day, “Do this and you will live. I fear God.


Then He said, “Do not reach out your hand against the young man—do nothing to him at all. For now I know that you are one who fears God—you did not withhold your son, your only son, from Me.”


There is no fear of God before their eyes.”


To fear Adonai is to hate evil. I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and a perverse mouth.


The fear of Adonai is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.


“Will evildoers never understand— those who consume My people as they eat bread— and never call on Adonai?”


There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. Now that man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.


Abimelech also said to Abraham, “What motivated you to do this thing?”


And besides, she really is my sister. She’s my father’s daughter, though not my mother’s daughter. Then she became my wife.
