Like a slug melting away as it slithers, like a woman’s miscarriage, may they never see the sun.


I said of laughter, “It is madness!” and of pleasure, “What does it accomplish?”


“But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your life you received your good things, even as Lazarus received the bad things. But now he is comforted here, and you are tormented.


Woe to you who are full, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who are laughing now, for you shall mourn and weep.


I will turn your festivals into mourning and all your songs into a dirge. I will pull up sackcloth on every waist and baldness on every head. I will make it like the mourning for an only son— its end a bitter day.”


If a wise man argues with a foolish man, he rants or laughs, with no resolution.
