My people! Children are their oppressors and women rule over them. My people! Your guides mislead you and destroy the way of your paths.


O house of David, thus says Adonai: “Render justice by morning, and rescue the one who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor. Otherwise My fury will go forth like fire and burn so none can extinguish it, because of their evil deeds.”


Riffraff and scoundrels gathered around him and pressed hard on Rehoboam son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted and could not stand up to them.


Jehoiachin was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem. He did evil in the sight of Adonai.


Jehoiakim was 25 years old when he became king, and he reigned 11 years in Jerusalem. He did evil in the sight of Adonai his God.


Joahaz was 23 years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.


Zedekiah was 21 years old when he became king and he reigned 11 years in Jerusalem.


An oppressive leader lacks judgment. One who hates unjust gain will prolong his life.


The mischief of fools wearies them for he doesn’t know how to go to town.


So now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and as for me, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but as for me, I will chastise you with scorpions.’”
