1 Samuel 22:17 - Tree of Life Version

17 Then the king ordered the guards attending him, “Turn around and kill the kohanim of Adonai, for they are in cahoots with David, for they knew that he was running away but did not inform me.” But the servants of the king were not willing to raise their hand to assault the kohanim of Adonai.

“This will be the practice of the king that will reign over you,” he said. “He will draft your sons and assign them as his charioteers and horsemen, and they will run before his chariots.


Behold, the days are coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that no one in your household will reach old age.


But the king said, “You will surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house.”


So King Rehoboam made in their place bronze shields and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, watching over the doorway of the royal palace.
