But He replied, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”


“Arise, go to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have just commanded a widow there to provide for you.”


He gives food to the cattle and to the young ravens which cry.


Who arranges provision for the raven, when its young cry out to God, and wander about for lack of food?


Then the devil leaves Him. And behold, angels came and began to take care of Him.


“But if He is quiet, who can condemn Him? If He hides His face, who can see Him? Yet He is over a nation and an individual alike,


“Take the staff and gather the assembly, you and your brother Aaron. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will give out its water. You will bring out water from the rock, and you will give the community something to drink, along with their livestock.”


“Leave this place, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Wadi Cherith, east of the Jordan.


So he went and did according to the word of Adonai—he went and lived by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan.


Then he went and found his carcass lying on the road, with the donkey and the lion standing by the carcass. The lion had not eaten the carcass nor mauled the donkey.


Now Adonai prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
