Howbeit these mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.


Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me; For my soul taketh refuge in thee: Yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I take refuge, Until these calamities be overpast.


But thou, O LORD, art a shield about me; My glory, and the lifter up of mine head.


And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.


All my inward friends abhor me: And they whom I loved are turned against me.


But it was thou, a man mine equal, My companion, and my familiar friend.


We took sweet counsel together, We walked in the house of God with the throng.


For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, say all my familiar friends, they that watch for my halting; peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.


All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee on thy way, even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread lay a snare under thee: there is none understanding in him.
