Likewise you that are younger be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”


With my whole heart I seek thee; let me not wander from thy commandments!


Thou dost spurn all who go astray from thy statutes; yea, their cunning is in vain.


I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”


For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”


“For behold, the day comes, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.


The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from thy precepts.


I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live,


“But if you will not obey the voice of the Lord your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you this day, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.


But he gives more grace; therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”


Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed be every one who hangs on a tree” —


Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.


“As for the word which you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you.


Therefore I profaned the princes of the sanctuary, I delivered Jacob to utter destruction and Israel to reviling.


Who gave up Jacob to the spoiler, and Israel to the robbers? Was it not the Lord, against whom we have sinned, in whose ways they would not walk, and whose law they would not obey?


When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem he will punish the arrogant boasting of the king of Assyria and his haughty pride.


For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly; but the haughty he knows from afar.


Let the godless be put to shame, because they have subverted me with guile; as for me, I will meditate on thy precepts.


And thou didst warn them in order to turn them back to thy law. Yet they acted presumptuously and did not obey thy commandments, but sinned against thy ordinances, by the observance of which a man shall live, and turned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not obey.


“But they and our fathers acted presumptuously and stiffened their neck and did not obey thy commandments;


Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods, because he delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians, when they dealt arrogantly with them.”


So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.
