Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows.


Bread is made for laughter, and wine gladdens life, and money answers everything.


Go, eat your bread with enjoyment, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has already approved what you do.


But the vine said to them, ‘Shall I leave my wine which cheers gods and men, and go to sway over the trees?’


Thou hast loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, thy God, has anointed thee with the oil of gladness beyond thy comrades.”


And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,


But thou hast exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; thou hast poured over me fresh oil.


But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all know.


Moreover he said to me, “Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem; they shall eat bread by weight and with fearfulness; and they shall drink water by measure and in dismay.


They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion, and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the Lord, over the grain, the wine, and the oil, and over the young of the flock and the herd; their life shall be like a watered garden, and they shall languish no more.


But the olive tree said to them, ‘Shall I leave my fatness, by which gods and men are honored, and go to sway over the trees?’


You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.


For, behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah stay and staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water;


Who is like the wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his countenance is changed.


Give strong drink to him who is perishing, and wine to those in bitter distress;


When he summoned a famine on the land, and broke every staff of bread,


You shall have olive trees throughout all your territory, but you shall not anoint yourself with the oil; for your olives shall drop off.


And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but that man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.


When I break your staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and shall deliver your bread again by weight; and you shall eat, and not be satisfied.


And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.


“Son of man, when a land sins against me by acting faithlessly, and I stretch out my hand against it, and break its staff of bread and send famine upon it, and cut off from it man and beast,


when I loose against you my deadly arrows of famine, arrows for destruction, which I will loose to destroy you, and when I bring more and more famine upon you, and break your staff of bread.


while I fetch a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.” So they said, “Do as you have said.”


And on the fourth day they arose early in the morning, and he prepared to go; but the girl's father said to his son-in-law, “Strengthen your heart with a morsel of bread, and after that you may go.”


Then Absalom commanded his servants, “Mark when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Fear not; have I not commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant.”


let them drink and forget their poverty, and remember their misery no more.


“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and return not thither but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,


Then Ephraim shall become like a mighty warrior, and their hearts shall be glad as with wine. Their children shall see it and rejoice, their hearts shall exult in the Lord.
