But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.


For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.


though I formerly blasphemed and persecuted and insulted him; but I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief,


and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith;


For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.


I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died;


They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee.


And when they heard it, they glorified God. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed; they are all zealous for the law,

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of extortion and rapacity.


And he said, “Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord.” So he had him ride in his chariot.


So the king called the Gibeonites. Now the Gibeonites were not of the people of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; although the people of Israel had sworn to spare them, Saul had sought to slay them in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.


Be not righteous overmuch, and do not make yourself overwise; why should you destroy yourself?


as the high priest and the whole council of elders bear me witness. From them I received letters to the brethren, and I journeyed to Damascus to take those also who were there and bring them in bonds to Jerusalem to be punished.


Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God,


that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,


But if the raw flesh turns again and is changed to white, then he shall come to the priest,


Then the men of the town said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, for he has pulled down the altar of Baal and cut down the Asherah beside it.”
