Listen, my beloved brethren. Has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those who love him?


For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.


“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.


Then the King will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;


“ ‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.


as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.


For I will leave in the midst of you a people humble and lowly. They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord,


The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall exult in the Holy One of Israel.


Blessed is the man who endures trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him.


This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be made worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering—


And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit;


for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of liberality on their part.


strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.


When one of those who sat at table with him heard this, he said to him, “Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!”


There you will weep and gnash your teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves thrust out.

Better is a little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked.


Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came to him.
