John 9:22 - Revised Standard Version

They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.


Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him.


“Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man!


They answered him, “You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.


But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.”


So they took his advice, and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.


None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high honor.

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”


After this Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him leave. So he came and took away his body.


Whom did you dread and fear, so that you lied, and did not remember me, did not give me a thought? Have I not held my peace, even for a long time, and so you do not fear me?


“I, I am he that comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass,


“Hearken to me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear not the reproach of men, and be not dismayed at their revilings.


The fear of man lays a snare, but he who trusts in the Lord is safe.


And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”


The Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight, until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight,


but how he now sees we do not know, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself.”


Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of man?”
