Jeremiah 3:17 - Revised Standard Version

17 At that time Jerusalem shall be called the throne of the Lord, and all nations shall gather to it, to the presence of the Lord in Jerusalem, and they shall no more stubbornly follow their own evil heart.

and he said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the people of Israel for ever. And the house of Israel shall no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their harlotry, and by the dead bodies of their kings,


A glorious throne set on high from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary.


And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell in the midst of you, and you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.


Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but every one walked in the stubbornness of his evil heart. Therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.”


And they shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as an offering to the Lord, upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord, just as the Israelites bring their cereal offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord.


“And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord, to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, every one who keeps the sabbath, and does not profane it, and holds fast my covenant—


But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.


for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened.


Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Once more they shall use these words in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I restore their fortunes: ‘The Lord bless you, O habitation of righteousness, O holy hill!’


“But they say, ‘That is in vain! We will follow our own plans, and will every one act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.’


and because you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, every one of you follows his stubborn evil will, refusing to listen to me;


Do not spurn us, for thy name's sake; do no dishonor thy glorious throne; remember and do not break thy covenant with us.


but have stubbornly followed their own hearts and have gone after the Baals, as their fathers taught them.


But they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and the stubbornness of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward.


Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool; what is the house which you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest?


So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the Lord drives.


In the path of thy judgments, O Lord, we wait for thee; thy memorial name is the desire of our soul.


In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple.


Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God. Selah


and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.


But whenever the judge died, they turned back and behaved worse than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them; they did not drop any of their practices or their stubborn ways.


“The secret things belong to the Lord our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.


and it shall be to you a tassel to look upon and remember all the commandments of the Lord, to do them, not to follow after your own heart and your own eyes, which you are inclined to go after wantonly.


And when the Lord smelled the pleasing odor, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I ever again destroy every living creature as I have done.


For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.


And above the firmament over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness as it were of a human form.


“For I know their works and their thoughts, and I am coming to gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and shall see my glory,


“ ‘I thought how I would set you among my sons, and give you a pleasant land, a heritage most beauteous of all nations. And I thought you would call me, My Father, and would not turn from following me.


and if you swear, ‘As the Lord lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in uprightness, then nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.”


And after I have plucked them up, I will again have compassion on them, and I will bring them again each to his heritage and each to his land.


And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, ‘As the Lord lives,’ even as they taught my people to swear by Baal, then they shall be built up in the midst of my people.


O Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble, to thee shall the nations come from the ends of the earth and say: “Our fathers have inherited naught but lies, worthless things in which there is no profit.


And this city shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the good that I do for them; they shall fear and tremble because of all the good and all the prosperity I provide for it.


The circumference of the city shall be eighteen thousand cubits. And the name of the city henceforth shall be, The Lord is there.”


and I will bring them to dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be my people and I will be their God, in faithfulness and in righteousness.”


“Likewise when a foreigner, who is not of thy people Israel, comes from a far country for thy name's sake


He has broken my strength in midcourse; he has shortened my days.
